Sybille Kozek-Langenecker

After completing her medical studies at the University of Vienna in 1991, she was trained at the Department of Anaesthesiology, General Intensive Care and Pain Management at the Vienna Medical University, Austria. She became Professor in Anaesthesiology in 2000 and Chairwoman of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Evangelic Hospital Vienna, Austria in 2008. Dr.

Kozek-Langenecker is president elect of the Austrian Society of Anaesthesiology (ÖGARI), member of the Austrian Task Force on Perioperative Bleeding Management of the ÖGARI, and chairperson of Subcommittee 6, Transfusion & Haemostasis, of the European Society of Anaesthesiologists (ESA). Her major research interests are perioperative bleeding management and postoperative pain. In 2009 she launched an innovative multi-media e-learning platform

including modules with European CME accreditation. Dr. Kozek-Langenecker wrote more than 90 articles and 30 chapters in national and international textbooks. She is currently member of the editorial board for Anesthesiology Research & Practice, Section Transfusion and AINS.

Rolf Rossaint

Rolf Rossaint is Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology at the University Hospital (since 1997) and Vice-Rector for Research at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen (since 2002), Germany. Dr. Rossaint studied medicine at the University of Düsseldorf and is board certified in Anaesthesiology. Prior to his present appointment, he was Associate Professor in the Clinics for Anaesthesiology and Surgical Intensive Care at the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Dr. Rossaint was the recipient of the E.-K. Frey Prize (1993), the Pulmedica Prize (1996), the Annual Scientific Award (1996) from the European Academy of Anaesthesiology and the Poster Award of 25th International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine 2005. He has (co) authored over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His clinical and research interests include pulmonary pathophysiology, ALI/ARDS/sepsis treatment, liver replacement therapy, xenon anaesthesia, coagulation management in trauma, and telemedicine in emergency medicine.
